Are you cramping, crying, and feeling like you're dying every month? Maybe your symptoms last longer than the “week” it’s supposed to? No one wants the dreaded PMS especially for half of the month. Let’s build a herbal first aid kit for cramps.
Natural Support for PMS
Nettle
My favorite herb, oops I say that about all of them, but really she’s a powerhouse of nutrients, anti inflammatory, and astringent. Nettle is full of nutrients like calcium, magnesium, vitamin C all shown to help ease PMS. It also has anti-inflammatory and astringent properties which can help reduce cramps and that annoying ache that can settle in your joints.
How to use: long 6 hrs+ infusions to extract nutrients, tea, capsules, tincture
Cramp Bark
As the name suggests, this herb is great for relieving cramps. It actually stops the muscle spasms from happening and it can also help with nausea. Cramp bark is considered to be a natural muscle relaxant.
How to use: most commonly as a tea with dried bark powder, topical cream
Red Raspberry Leaf
Known as the woman’s herb, raspberry is antispasmodic, astringent, and anti inflammatory. It has long been used to stop menstrual cramps due to the alkaloids that tone pelvic muscles. Raspberry also improves blood circulation to the uterus which can soothe inflammation and stagnation. It is also full of nutrients like nettle!
How to use: long 6hrs+ infusion, tea, tincture, capsules
Lemon Balm
This beautiful herb is so supportive for emotional and mental wellbeing. Depression, anxiety, and just overall heightened emotions are so common with PMS. Lemon Balm helps to increase GABA in the brain which is a fantastic neurotransmitter for anxiety, restless thoughts, and poor sleep. Do use caution if you have hypothyroidism as too much Lemon Balm can suppress function.
How to use: tea, capsules, tincture
